In my part of the world (on Earth, in 2025), by the age of 18 or so, we are expected to start to fend for ourselves..
..finding resources as we can, and doing what it takes to help ensure our own survival - finding a place to live, eating and taking care for our physical bodies as well as all the myriad needs a human has.
All of which is hard enough, without the emotional and spiritual needs on top of this. People speak of a higher self, and perhaps that is who needs to be heard, to be seen, to be loved.
Don’t get it twisted: taking care of a human body is a LOT. It’s honestly, a job in itself. The breathing, drinking, eating, other bodily functions, care and tending-to can be overwhelming in itself.
Not to mention the extra strain of taking care of others (kids, siblings, parents or others, real or imagined), the added stress of environmental toxins and/or natural disasters or personal stressors - work or relationship-wise, not to mention financial issues or legal woes or health complications.
Whew!
It’s enough to make you exhausted just thinking about it.
You are an actual badass just to make it this far (shoutout to Jen Sincero for writing about what a badass you are!).
Give yourself credit for all you HAVE accomplished. If you immediately heard your mind say “not enough” then feel free to check out Marisa Peer and her books.
